How to Clean Your Air Fryer – Smelly and Dirty?

What’s the easiest way to be a good cook while using your air fryer? And the simple answer to this question is to clean your air fryer thoroughly after using it every time when you are done cooking with it.

Wash your basket every time with a soft sponge and warm water to clean the grease and food leftover in the Basket. The First Step to do this is clean your tray and net basket with a paper towel and then soak it in warm water for a few minutes like 5 to 10 minutes depending upon the stickiness of food residues don’t forget to put some dishwashing liquid in it. Dishwashing liquid always helps to remove the residues stickiness binding and make them soft. Always use a microfiber cloth for cleaning. Leave your basket in the open air to dry or you can use a paper towel to dry it.

One thing always remembers before putting your air fryer on preheating, always open and check the basket of your air fryer. I have learned it from my experience because sometimes your kids or your husband use and leave it dirty that usually happens with me. Always make sure your air fryer basket is clean.

Use light-soaked micro fabric cloth to wipe the exterior part of your air fryer to remove dust, fingerprints and some grease.

Some people use a damp paper towel to clean the heating element after every cooking session. I am gonna be here among them because deep cleaning sessions are a bit difficult so to avoid that very frequently I opt this method. Make sure your unit is cool down all the way and unplugged from electricity before you start cleaning it.

What if you get a smelly odor from your air fryer?

If your air fryer is new, then you can get the factory smell that normally comes from new appliances factory plastics smell or if you are using it continuously but not cleaning it regularly and it likely smelling grease, food splatters stick up in that heating element.

For new air fryers owners, I recommend to wash the pan a basket and preheat for 20 minutes and if even doing this process still it has that smell I have a tip that will definitely help you get rid of this smell take an oven-safe bowl and fill it half with white vinegar add two tablespoons of lemon juice  now place that in air fryer basket and run your air fryer for 5-10 minutes at 350 to 400 degrees you might have to do it 3 to 4 times till the smell goes away but if that smell is not getting away I will suggest contacting the manufacturer

How do I deep clean my Air fryer?

Answer to this question is roll up your sleeves and you need 30 minutes to deep clean your air fryer. You need some good cleaners, toothbrush, micro fabric cloth and some lemon juice and vinegar or maybe even a scouring pad. I am not promising you that it will look like new again but obviously, it will look and smell much better. If you will take care of your air fryer you will increase its life.

Caution: You can only soak and wash your air fryer pan and basket in warm water, not your complete unit.

Now you have to dive in your air fryer heating panel remember don’t forget to unplug your air fryer make sure it’s completely cool down before you start cleaning inside and after cleaning leave your air fryer open for a few minutes to be completely dry. I prefer to leave it overnight to dry it completely just for a piece of mind.

Now turn your Air fryer upside down and wipe it off with your microfiber cloth. A lot of greases will come out with that and you should do it on a monthly basis.

Now my homemade cleaner one tablespoon baking soda one tablespoon dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon vinegar and now with the help of toothbrush scrub all the inner parts and heating element part of your air fryer and you can even use the spray bottle to settle your cleanser in every part now leave this for few minutes.

After that take a damp paper towel and Lift all the cleanser and then under the heating element use both toothbrush and micro fabric and scrub it together and leave your air fryer overnight to get completely dry.
